The Prunus or Cherry genus

Finding out what Cherry species you are dealing with.

Determination of cherry species is next to impossible: there are more than 400 species. All are cultivated of course. It is however rather easy to discern that a tree is a cherry: the trunk has hotizontal brown shiny "ribs" of strips (see the first pic). The leafs are mostly long and slender and have "eye-lashes-like teeth". The branches are often ented on the trunk.

Here a review of the 400 species.
